EARL JUNIOR "MUTT" DELANEY, age 92 years, a resident of Parsons, WV, departed this life early Thursday morning, January 25, 2018 at the Davis Medical Center at Elkins, WV, under the care of West Virginia Caring.

He was born Friday, December 25, 1925 at Parsons, WV, a son of the late Francis Earl and Myrtle Ida Baker Delaney.

On December 16, 1946 at Oakland, MD, he was married to the former Rebecca Ann McDonald, who preceded him in death August 25, 2015.

They had celebrated sixty-eight years of marriage.

Surviving are one son, Steven Earl "Coach" Delaney and wife Cassie of Frostburg, MD; two daughters, Virginia Katherine "Kathy" Simmons and husband Terry of Parsons and Susan Marie "Susie" Elza and husband Eric of Morgantown, WV; one sister, Marijane Delaney Martin of St. George; six grandchildren, Rob Delaney, Chris Delaney, Mike Simmons, Kari Ann Simmons Poling, Susan Simmons, and Stacey Elza; nine great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.

Preceding him in death is one grandson, Danny Simmons; two brothers, Tommy and Albert Delaney; three sisters, Pauline Mullennex, Betty Jennnings and Doreen Allender.

He was a graduate and the president of the Parsons High School Class of 1944.

He also excelled in academics and sports, but perhaps his earliest achievement was when he won the title of WV Marble Champion while still in grade school.

He was a Veteran of the United States Navy, serving during WWII.

Mr. Delaney returned to enter Davis & Elkins College, then held several jobs before being hired by the US Postal Service, serving as postmaster in Parsons until his retirement.

During August of 1984, he received the Ambassadorship of Public Service Award for his work as Postmaster.

Always active in his community through civic organizations or helping as a volunteer, he helped get troubled children on the right track and his help is reflected by many successful adults today.

Mutt served as mayor of Parsons and was among those who turned Tucker County Poor Farm into the Holly Meadows Country Club and golf course.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Sunday, January 28, 2018 from 12 Noon until 1 PM.

Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 1 PM.

Pastor Lenny Delaney will officiate, and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, WV, where the U.S. Navy Funeral Honor Guard, the H.W. Daniels Post #29 American Legion, the Tygart Valley Post #3647 Veterans of Foreign War and the Tucker Co. Veterans Assoc. will conduct full military honors.
