David G. Fleet, age 70, of Rome, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2016 at Rome Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.

David was born on April 20, 1946 in Rome to the late Gerald and Margaret Gurley Fleet. He graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1964 and then received his bachelor’s degree from Utica College. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. On September 15, 1978, he was united in marriage to the former Mary Yousey. He worked as a Mental Health Therapy Aide at the CNY Psych Center.

David loved to read, fish, and work out. He loved animals, having cared for dogs and a cat. He was a history buff and loved his Chrysler products. David was also an avid Buffalo Bills and New York Mets fan. He belonged to the VFW Post 2246 in Rome.

David is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Mary; a son, Jared Fleet of Rome; a daughter and son in law, Kayla and Justin Blum of Las Vegas, NV; two grandchildren, Austin and Levi; a brother and sister in law, Bill and Joan Fleet of Rome; a sister and brother in law, Gina and Paul Dempsey of White Plains, NY; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
