Bartlett Herbert Hastings - August 5, 1925 – September 11, 2016. Beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle, passed away September 11, 2016 after a brief illness. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Bernice (Rugg) Hastings of Worcester and his brother Robert Hastings of Enfield. He was a veteran of WWII and a POW or as he liked to say, “he was a guest of the German government”. He graduated from Worcester Polytech Institute and worked for the Boy Scouts of America, retiring in 1987. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruth (Holly)(Darling) Hastings, his three sons, Kenneth of West Springfield, Andrew and Stacia Hastings of Westfield, Glenn and his fiancée Elizabeth Weaver, grandsons Matthew and Jesse Hastings and many nieces and nephews. He and Ruth spent their retirement years as snowbirds in Florida and crossing the country in their RV. Bart loved to golf and was an avid Red Sox fan. He was honored with a standing ovation on POW Day 2014. He was a longtime Deacon at the Mittineague Congregational Church. He was an active member of the West Springfield FORM club, delivered mail for the W. Springfield Schools, worked the Big E, retiring from both in November, 2015. The funeral will be Friday at 10 am in Mittineague Congregational Church followed by committal services with Military Honors at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery. Calling hours at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home will be Thursday 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
