JoAnn Fischer, 75, of Waldron, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2016, at Major Hospital in Shelbyville.

She was born Jan. 20, 1941, in Rush County, the daughter of Joseph and Christine (Mauer) Kramer. On Nov. 20, 1971, she married Ray Fischer, and he preceded her in death on May 21, 1991.

JoAnn graduated from Arlington High School in 1959, and attended Indiana University for two years.

She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, where she helped by cooking for funeral dinners, and was known for her amazing homemade pies.

JoAnn was a homemaker. She formerly worked as an executive assistant at General Motors until her children were born. When her children were in school, she worked in the evenings at Medcheck, as a registrar and in the cafeteria at Waldron Elementary, so she could see them during the day. Later, she worked at Community Hospital East in the billing department, retiring in 2002.

She was also a member of st. Ann's Altar Society.

JoAnn enjoyed gardening, writing notes and cards, reading and mowing grass.

She loved her grandchildren and treasured the time she spent with them.

JoAnn is survived by her daughters, Amy (Wade) Dingman, of Greenfield and Rebecca "Becky" (Dan) Wagner, of Lebanon; son, Jonathan "Jon" (Alison) Fischer, of Waldron; sister, Marilyn (Stan) Huseland, of Carmel; brothers, Ralph (Carol) Kramer, of Shelbyville, Bob Kramer of Rushville, and Bill Kramer of Greensburg; grandchildren, Cole Dingman, Mackenzie Polster, Tyler Dingman, Ben Polster, James Wagner and wife, Kate, Ray Wagner, Lorelei Wagner, Alivia Fischer and Grace Fischer; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 19, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. The rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial begins at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 4218 E. Michigan Road in Shelbyville, with Father Paul Landwerlen officiating. Interment will be at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery.
