Thomas “Tommy” S. Irons passed away on September 14, 2016, at his home in Florence, Alabama surrounded by his family.

Visitation will be held at Greenview Funeral Home on Friday, September 16, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 17, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel. Frank Richey and Joel Caudle will be officiating. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.

Tommy was born on April 24, 1943, in Florence, Alabama to William Andrew Irons and Estelle Olive Irons. He graduated from Central High School in 1961. Tommy had a longstanding career as an electrician and retired from Reynolds Metals Company. He was a member of IBEW Local 558 for over 50 years and a member of Glendale Church of Christ.

Tommy was always the happiest when he was spending time with his family. He loved fishing with his grandson, watching his granddaughter play softball and celebrating birthdays and holidays at home or the lake with family. He enjoyed watching Alabama football and basketball.

Tommy had a special talent for making knives which talent he passed on to his son. He enjoyed making the knives and giving them away to family and friends, something they will cherish forever. Tommy even made a knife for Pro Football Hall of Famer, Brett Favre.

Tommy is survived by his wife of over 53 years, Jo Mills Irons. Also surviving Tommy is his daughter, Tammy L. Irons (Curley Hallman); his son, Scott Irons (Tammy Oakley Irons); his grandson, Colter Scott Irons (fiancée Carley Stricklin); granddaughter, Heather Irons; and his sister, Dot Willis, all of Florence, Alabama.

Preceding Tommy in death were his parents, William Andrew Irons and Emma Estelle Olive Irons, his sister, Frances Irons McCorkle and two nephews, Randy McCorkle and Lance McCorkle.

Pallbearers will be Colter Irons, Curley Hallman, Charles Watkins, Anthony Chandler, Mike Jackson and Mike Cooper.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Bo Mills, Dicky Gray, Doug McDonald, James “Pat” Patterson, Jerry Nelson, Danny Rose, Joe Cooper, Bob Hill, Glendon Jackson, Lendon Jackson, Jimmy McAdams, Louis McAdams, Homer Liles, and members of IBEW Local 558.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Tommy Irons may be made to Glendale Church of Christ Building Fund, Florence, Alabama, the American Cancer Society or any other charity of your choice. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Danny McFall, Dr. Patrick Daugherty, Dr. Hemant Patel and to all of the employees of Northwest Alabama Cancer Center and Hospice of the Shoals.
