Gilbert Earl Bishop, age 94 of Gobles, MI, passed away Sept. 14, 2016 at Meadow Woods Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Bloomingdale, MI. Gilbert was born Aug. 14, 1922 in Memphis, MI to the late Adrian and Mildred (Hall) Bishop. On Oct. 7, 1949, he married the former Ms. Elizabeth Easter Egler. She preceded him in death, passing away in 2002. Surviving are his children E. Lois (Verle) Bell of Grand Rapids, MI, Richard (Doris) Bishop of Allegan, MI, Kathleen Conley of Bangor, MI, and Marlene Bishop of Gobles, MI. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 3 sisters and 4 brothers. Gilbert was preceded in death by his 3 sons Robert, Roland and Keith Bishop and 9 brothers and sisters. There will be a celebration of his life at 4pm on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016 at the Bangor Free Methodist Church, Bangor, MI. Elkhart Cremation Service is assisting with arrangements. Gilbert spent more than 70 years as a dairy farmer. He loved raising and showing draft horses, especially Percherons. Gilbert also enjoyed attending draft horse shows and plow days, and attending the National Draft Horse Show in Denver, CO. He was also a longtime member of the Bangor Free Methodist Church, Bangor, MI where he taught Sunday school for many years.
