Norbert was born June 18, 1929 at Mt. Carmel, ND to Joseph and Barbara (Thome) Hiltner. He attended school and then entered the US Navy. After returning from the Navy, Norbert was married to Lila Robeck on August 2, 1952 in Minneapolis, MN. He and Lila lived on the East Coast, Minneapolis and then made their home in Langdon where they raised their six children. Norbert was employed as a machinist and partsman at Universal Parts until his retirement.
Norbert loved bird watching, wild turkeys, the annual pheasant hunting trips, the bluegill fishing trips, and reaping the rewards of his son’s fishing. He enjoyed his walks up the frontage road where many people observed him on a daily basis and looked forward to having coffee with his neighbors and friends up at the Bread Pan almost every day. Norbert had a wonderful sense of humor, bantering with his many friends. He was also a life-long San Francisco Giants baseball fan. Above all, Norbert’s prize possession was his family who came together on a regular basis to enjoy each other’s company. Norbert was a faithful member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Langdon.
Surviving Norbert are his children: Lynda Hiltner (Dan Dunn) of Las Vegas, NV, Gary (Janet) of Minot, ND, Doug (Renee) of St. Michael, ND, Randy (Kathy) of Devils Lake, ND, Greg (Lauren) of Brandon, MB, Jeff of Jamestown, ND; brother Sylvester (Cozy) Hiltner; sisters-in-law Carmen Hiltner and Joan Hiltner; and brothers-in-law Richard Robeck and Florus Robeck. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lila, and siblings: Mary Ann, Mary Magdalen, Arthur, Joseph, John, Robert, George, Frank and Edward.
