Helen Austin Pendry, 85, passed away September 13, 2016 at the Hospice Home at High Point surrounded by her family and friends.

Helen was born September 8, 1931, a daughter of the late Moses and Minnie Townsend Austin. She was a character! She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. Helen adored her family and friends. She was an amazing cook and had her own catering business for over forty years and also worked at the High Point Regional Hospital soda shop for twelve years. She loved playing bingo and reading James Patterson books. Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Gurnie W. Pendry, three sisters and two brothers.

Surviving are her children, Marsha Stanley and husband Bruce, Gurnie W. “Tim” Pendry, Jr. and wife Melissa, and Deana Pendry; grandchilden, Dr. Rodney Stanley and wife Dr. Mary Stanley, Heather Stanley, Brandon Pendry and wife Stacey, Mathew Pendry; great-grandchildren, James K. Stanley, Mark K. Stanley, Emerson Pendry; sister, Mary Sue Dean.

A Celebration of Helen’s life will be held Saturday, September 17 at 11 a.m. in the Davis Funerals and Cremations Chapel by Pastor Ben Trawick. Burial will follow in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 9:30 until the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Piedmont.
