Somehow we are supposed to believe he was just a statistic. But 15-year-old KeyShawn Abraham was a young man with so much life and promise.

KeyShawn was innocently riding his bike down Ray Street, coming up to Tubman on Saginaw's southeast side, behind Saginaw High School, on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016. He was approached by people unknown to him in a white or silver car around 6:15 p.m. on Sept. 4. They shot him and drove away like cowards.

KeyShawn was still awake when the police arrived. He gave them all of the information he could about the incident, but he was in critical condition. After being transported to a Saginaw trauma center, he was flown down to the University of Michigan Hospitals.

He fought so hard. No family should have to live with the death of a child, but especially not when he is between the fairgrounds and his own high school.

Mr. KeyShawn Jamar Abraham passed away on Friday, September 9, 2016 at the University of Michigan Medical Center, age 15 years. He was born November 13, 2000 in Saginaw, Michigan to Carolyn Baker and Lamond Abraham.

KeyShawn was a 10th grader at Saginaw High School. He attended Gideon Church under the leadership of Pastor Chet Atkins. KeyShawn loved to play basketball and hang out with family and friends. He enjoyed taking care of people and playing video games. KeyShawn was silly and fun-loving. He loved to “playfully” get on everyone’s nerves. When family and friends needed him, KeyShawn was always there.

He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Carolyn Baker; father, Lamond Abraham; grandparents, Samuel (Beatrice) Gipson, Lee (Regina) Abraham and great-grandfather, Reverend Eddie Williams; four sisters, Latoya (Choy Sr.) Bland, Shatoya Roberson, Carolyn Abraham and Ebony McDaniels; four brothers, Anthony Baker, Antwan Noel, Lamond Abraham Jr. and Gary Davis; three nieces, D’Asia Jones, Bre’Asia Smith and Akayla Baker; three nephews, D’Anthony Jones, Anthony Noel, Dequavous Jones Jr., and Choy Bland II; four aunts, Jackie Burnell, Rachell Baker, LeKitha Abraham and Michelle Mays; five uncles, Lee Abraham, Jr., Victor Baker, Anthony Baker, Eddie Williams Sr. and Willie Williams; many cousins including Tyreon Roby, Tyree Roby, Victor Baker II, Trayvon Scroggins; one brother-in-law, Dequavous Jones; many other relatives and friends including special friends, Tyrell Essex, Alex Harris, Tanaris Lee, Darwin Wolfe, Damus Parham, Rakim Peterson, Dee’Acrych Hooker and Antrell Wright.

KeyShawn was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jasper Baker, great-grandmother, Beatrice Williams, great-uncle, Leon Williams, great-aunt, Annie Williams, and friends, Josh Phillips and DaJuan Byrd.

The family would like to give special thanks to everyone for the financial contributions, food, prayers, and just for being a shoulder to cry on and for sharing smiles during our bereavement.
