Dennis Claude "D.C." Stanley, Sr., 69, of Montcalm, WV died suddenly Saturday, September 10, 2016.
D.C. was born January 2, 1947, in Avondale, WV, a son of the late Burl Stanley Sr. (1904-1966) and Mable Payne-Stanley (1916-2010). He loved mining coal and was a superintendent for many years at Royalty Smokeless Coal Company in Premier, WV. He enjoyed hunting with his grandsons, sons-in-law, and brothers. He also enjoyed fishing.
In addition to his parents Burl Stanley Sr. (1904-1966) and Mable Payne-Stanley (1916-2010) he was preceded in death by his grandparents, William Bartley Stanley (1877-1919) and Julia Ann Coleman-Stanley-Asbury (1873-1940), and Jim Roberts (Deceased) and Clara Jane Payne (Deceased); his first wife, Libby Stanley (Deceased); and five grandchildren Ryan Helbert, Samuel Varney (Deceased), Savanna Varney (Deceased), Corey Varney (Deceased), and Courtney Varney (Deceased).
He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Betty Jean Stanley (1940-1940), Bonnie Katherine "Kat" Stanley-Addair (1921-1989) and Joan Stanley (Deceased); five brothers, Burl Stanley, Jr. (1924-1958), Calvin Stanley (1926-1973), James "Jimmy" H. Stanley (1938-2014), Oliver Smith Stanley (1949-2016), and J. C. Stanley (1931-1931); four brothers-in-law, Reverend James "Jim" Addair (Deceased), Edgar Brant (Deceased), John Donnelly (Deceased) and Hershel Baker (Deceased); and two sisters-in-law, Joyce Stanley (Deceased) and Sherry Roberts (Deceased).
Survivors include three daughters, Janis Stanley-Cooper and husband Eric Cooper of Bluefield, WV, Vicki Stanley-Coburn and husband Ronnie Coburn of Richlands, VA, and Pamela Stanley-Varney and husband David Varney of Marion, OH; one son, Dennis "Denny" Stanley, Jr. and Bob Nicholson – life partner of Zanesville, OH; two sisters, Gertrude "Cricket" Stanley-Donnelly of Iaeger, WV, and Veronica "Tootsie" Stanley-Baker also of Iaeger; a special sister-in-law, Johnnie Mae Stanley of Iaeger; two brothers, Forrest "Buster" Stanley and wife Berniece Stanley of Iaeger, and Roger Stanley and wife Sherry Stanley of Sioux City, IA.
Friends may visit with the family from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday evening, September 15, 2016, at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger, WV, where funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. with Reverend Johnnie Stanley officiating. Cremation will follow these services.
