Verva was born October 1, 1927, at home on a farm outside of Callaway, Nebraska, to Theodore and Ethel (Hendricks) Lange. She attended school at Red Fern Table until the 10th grade and then went on to Callaway High School. Verva then took two years off because of the war to work on the farm before graduating with the class of 1946. Following High School, Verva moved to Kansas City for a year and worked at Sears before moving back to Callaway to work on the family farm.

She was united in marriage to Henry Liner on January 12, 1948, in Callaway, Nebraska. Three daughters were blessed to this union: Martha, Sue and Kay. They sold the farm and with Henry working for Missouri Valley they lived in many different place throughout the United States. They would later divorce and Verva would reside in Callaway working at the nursing home. After retirement, she moved to Kearney for nine years. She spent her final months in Wausau, Nebraska, to be closer to her daughter.

Verva had a love of horses and riding them as a child working on the farm. She enjoyed watching the Nebraska Huskers, Kansas City Royals and Stock Car Racing. She also enjoyed working on puzzles, gardening and reading.

Survivors include her three daughters; Martha “Marty” and husband Doug Smith of Columbus, Nebraska, Sue White of Bloomfield, Nebraska, and Kay Boyles of Evansville, Wyoming; eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren with one on the way and three great-great grandchildren with one on the way; two sisters, Verna Leonard and significant other Jay Lichtenberger of Broken Bow, Nebraska, and Harriet Wentworth of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
