In 1968, her family moved from the farm to Gainesville, Florida. She graduated from Gainesville High School in 1975. While working at Publix in New Smyrna Beach, FL in 1980, she met the love of her life, David. David continued to work for Publix until his recent retirement after 40 years. They were married in 1982. When they started their family, Dawn devoted herself to her husband and sons. She was a Cub Scout leader and team mom for all their activities. Dawn was very active in her church, always serving others. She loved baking, gardening, crafting, sewing and crocheting.
During her battle with cancer, Dawn continued to crochet baby blankets. On treatment days, Dawn would deliver these special blankets to the nursery at Kennestone Hospital. Her strength and faith in God was an inspiration to all who met her.

Dawn is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, David Patterson, sons, “JR” William Ray Mitchum, Jr. (Jaclyn) of Woodstock, GA and Chase Patterson (Arley), of Preston, Idaho. Grandchildren, Conner Mitchum (2) Charlotte Patterson, born April 16th, 2016. Brothers, Robin of Keystone Heights, FL, Ralph of Sherburne, NY, Herbert II of Wallingford, CN, Terry of Rocky Mount, NC and a sister, Pamela Harris of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dawn will be laid to rest next to her parents, in The Middlefield Cemetery.
