Robert E. Miller, 81, of Keokuk died Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, at his home following a long illness.

He was born on Aug. 30, 1928, in Warsaw, Ill., the son of James R. and Florence Shaw Miller.

He married Genevieve (Sis) Goetz on July 4, 1949. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past July surrounded by family and friends.

He was in the United States Corps of Engineers from January 1947 to June 1948, serving in the Marshall Islands on Kwajalein during testing of the atomic bomb.

He worked at The Hubinger Company for 32 years at the grain elevator, retiring as foreman.

He loved to hunt for geodes, fish, hunt and look for mushrooms. He loved his vegetable garden and winters in Texas.

He liked to watch Western movies on television, especially John Wayne and Clint Eastwood. He also loved to visit with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Dale and Russell; and a sister, Ruby Varner.
