Dr. Nicholas Spring Holland, 71, was a pioneer educator and former teacher in the Moran and Albany schools, died in Baylor Hospital, Dallas. He had been ill two weeks with a heart ailment.
Services were held at the Episcopal Church in Dallas. Graveside rites were held at Albany.
Dr. Holland moved to Moran with his parents in 1911, and taught school at Moran and later Albany.
Nicholas Spring Holland married Augusta Price on 4 September 1907 at Albany, Texas.
Dr. Holland received his bachelor and Master's degree at SMU. His first teaching and principal responsibilities were at Seymour. He returned to school and received his Ph.D. from Columbia University. Returning to Texas, Dr. Holland taught in Moran and Albany and served as superintendent of schools 10 years at Stamford, 10 years at Breckenridge and six years at Baytown.
Dr. Holland retired as an educator in 1945 and has been employed as state manager of the A.J. Nystrum Company of Chicago. He has maintained a Nystrum Book Store office in Dallas.
Survived by his wife; his mother; two brothers - Bruce and Lannie Holland; one niece - Mrs. Bill Bartholomew.
