Frank P. Williamson Jr. was born in Cropwell, Alabama. He was the son of Frank P. "Daddy Block" Williamson (1887-1971) and Zula J. "Momma Block" Bynum - Williamson. (1884-1969). Frank Jr. grew up near Pell City. Alabama during the Depression helping his father run his small farm. He enlisted into the US Army in 1937, and first reported to Ft. McClellan, Alabama, and then later to Ft. Benning , Georgia. He was originally an Infantry soldier, but in April 1939 he married Mary Alice Calmes (1918-1980), and then in September of 1939 World War Two began in Europe, and by early 1940, he and Mary Alice were expecting their first child. He was sent to the Quartermaster School, and graduated soon after the US began mobilizing for the war, and was promoted directly from PFC to Tech Sergeant, - skipping four pay grades. Frank served in a Quartermaster Company in England as a part of the Eighth Air Force during the 1944 buildup for "D-Day," and through to the end of the war. In 1947, he went with the Air Force as they separated from the Army. He was medically retired from the US Air Force in 1958 as a Master Sergeant. He bought a farm near Prattville in order to be close to Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, and raised chickens, and hogs, and grew a large garden. Between 1940 and 1947, they had three sons and a daughter, and in the early 60's, all three of his sons were serving in the United States Army, while his daughter later married an Airman in the 70's. Frank Williamson died in 1970 from complications related to emphysema. His wife Mary Alice would join him ten years later in 1980. Frank and Mary Alice Williamson are buried side-by-side in Prattville Memorial Gardens on Alabama Highway 14 in Prattville, Alabama.
