OBITUARY
Joan (Oberg) Erickson, 83, Moorhead, MN, died on Thursday, September 8, 2016, in Essentia St. Mary's Hospital, Detroit Lakes, MN, due to an automobile accident.

Joan Oberg was born on September 30, 1932 in Fargo, ND, to Gudmund and Myrtle (Grinde) Oberg. She grew up and attended school at Kragnes, MN, graduating from Moorhead High School in 1950. She graduated from Dakota Business College and then worked as an accountant for KVOX radio from 1952 until 1955.

Joan married Duane Erickson on March 19, 1954 in Moorhead and they lived in Fargo for three years while Duane attended college. She worked as a credit manager at Smith, Inc. in Fargo from 1955 until 1957. They moved to rural Moorhead in 1957. She stayed home and cared for her family from 1957 until 1974 when she went to work for the Moorhead Public Schools as a secretary to the principal, where she worked until retiring in 1992.

Joan was very active in church and community, serving and participating in every way at North Buffalo Lutheran Church. She also served as a 4-H leader, was active in local politics and served as an election judge in Clay County.
She and Duane traveled the world and this was a highlight of her life. She also enjoyed spending time at the lakes. She loved being social and was involved in Homemakers, swimming, birthday club and more. She volunteered for Hospice and was a reliable visitor for many lonely people. A gift of food from Joan was a gift of love and she made her home a welcoming place. Flower gardening was another of her passions.

Above all, her greatest joy was family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed attending all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren's events.

Joan is survived by her husband, Duane Erickson, Moorhead, MN; three children Mary (Dale) Flesberg, Argusville, ND, John (Kim) Erickson, Fergus Falls, MN, and Chuck (Jeanne) Erickson, Moorhead, MN; brothers Elmer Oberg and Ernie (Wilma) Oberg, both Moorhead, MN; seven grandchildren Eric (Angie) Flesberg, Brian (Sarah) Flesberg, Karen Flesberg, Adam Erickson, Isaac (Rachel) Erickson, Charlie (Jaimee) Erickson, and Heidi Erickson; three great-grandchildren Anna, Benjamin and Gavin Flesberg.
