John Areford, son of Mr & Mrs George W Areford of Carmichaels died at the Base hospital at Camp Lee, Va, February 28, aged 29 years. His death was the result of influenza and complications. He suffered an attack of influenza a few weeks ago and later mastoid trouble developed and he underwent three operations. Mr. Areford was a member of the National Army and was attached to the medical corps at the Base Hospital, Camp Lee, Va, where he had spent several months. He was an excellent young man and was widely known throughout the county. He had followed school teaching and previous to his entering the US service had been a mail carrier on RD Route No 1 from Carmichaels. He was a member of the New Providence Presbyterian church and of the IOOF and POS of A Lodges. Besides his parents he is survived by one sister, Mrs. Frank Ross of Crucible and two brothers, Fred and Ray Areford, at home. The remains arrived at Carmichaels Tuesday morning and the funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, conducted by the Rev E B Lawrence, assisted by the Rev E D Bevier. Interment in Hewitt cemetery. Military services were conducted at the cemetery and he was buried in the honors of war.
