New London, NH-Roger H. Watts, 82, of Sutton Road, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at his home with his wife by his side. He was born in Orange, NJ on July 9, 1932 the son of Wilfred and Ellen (Acornley) Watts. He grew up in Montclair NJ and during his working career he lived in Chicago IL, New York, & Fairfield County CT. He and his wife moved to North Sutton just over 7 years ago.

Roger earned a degree from Iowa State University in Forest Utilization. He then served in the U.S. Army in Japan in the early 1950's. When he was in his 30's he graduated from the University of CT Law School and passed the bar when he was 36, and later, he earned a Master’s Degree in tax law from the University of Chicago. Roger worked for Rayonier Inc. as an Environmental Attorney and finally as Vice President & General Counsel.

In NH, Roger discovered the indepth Bible teaching of Rev. Dr. Allen Koop at the Wilmot Baptist Church that became his church home. He was active in the New London Historical Society and particularly enjoyed the 'Tuesday Gang'. He enjoyed working with his hands and was a skilled wood carver. He loved the history and architecture of New England and restored two 18th century homes. His other love was American History, especially Civil War era and Abraham Lincoln. In college he discovered early Dixieland Jazz recordings which began a lifelong interest in the early pioneers of jazz and the music he called "unmitigated mirth". At one time, he taught a course on the subject in New London.

Members of his family surviving include his wife of 36 years, Lois (Poynter) Watts of New London, NH; three children, Keith Watts of Palos Verdes, CA, Cheryl Bridgeland and Wendy Lariaia both of IL; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren and a brother, Peter Watts of Wellfleet, MA. He was predeceased by two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 21, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at the Wilmot Flat Baptist Church with The Rev. Dr. Allen Koop, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made to Lake Sunapee Region Visiting Nurse Association Hospice, P.O. Box 2209, New London, NH 03257.
