JAEGER, Barbara Fofo (Merjano), age 94, long time resident of Pacifica, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2016 in Santa Rosa. Born in December, 1921, in San Francisco, to Xenophon and Helen Merjano, Barbara was Valedictorian at Mission High School in 1939, and worked her way through college, receiving her degree from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1948.

Barbara taught elementary school in San Francisco for over 40 years, continuing even after her retirement to teach as a substitute for another 20 years. An avid walker, she was an activist for open space preservation, and a lifelong supporter of numerous causes, including the Coyote Point Museum, the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve, the de Young Museum, and the SS Jeremiah O'Brien. A world traveller, she was remarkable for her ability to make friends everywhere she went, and for her disregard for convention.

In her final years she was cared for by her sons and her daughter-in-law.

Barbara was preceded in death by her sister Mary Merjano, brothers James and Ernie Merjano, nephew Peter Merjano, and her former husband Allen Jaeger.

Barbara is survived by her sister, sister-in-law, sons, grandchildren and great-granddaughter, cousins and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to Graveside Services, Oct. 4, 2016, at Olivet Memorial Park, Colma, CA.
