Donato C. "Dick" Alu, 85, Dunmore, died early Monday morning at home. He and his wife, the former Catherine Errico, would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on Oct. 12.

Born in Dunmore, he was the son of the late Joseph and Rose Luongo Alu. Dick was a graduate of Dunmore High School, class of 1948, and was an Army veteran, having served honorably during the Korean War. He was a member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish in Dunmore and its Holy Name Society. Before retirement, Dick worked his entire career as a journeyman at Haddon Craftsmen in Scranton.

He will be best remembered as a family man who loved his grandchildren dearly. He will be missed by family and friends more than words can express.

Also surviving are his son, Donato C. Alu Jr. and wife, Jean Marie, Dunmore; grandchildren, Danielle Marcinek and husband, Mike, Peckville; Anthony Donato Alu and his fiancée, Jennifer Sobolewski, Dunmore; and Alexis Alu, New York, N.Y.; a brother-in-law, John Errico and wife, Mary Ellen, Dunmore; sisters-in-law, Philomena and Catherine Errico, both of Dunmore; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Rosella Grimes; and a brother, Michael Alu.

The funeral will be Thursday with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith Street, Dunmore. Interment will follow in Dunmore Cemetery.

All those attending the Mass are asked to go directly to the church Thursday morning.

Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore.
