Edwin E. Anthrop, Sr., 89, of West Point, Indiana, died at St. Elizabeth East Hospital in Lafayette 7:38 AM Monday September 12, 2016 where he had been a patient for the past three days. He had been a resident of Parkview Nursing Home in Attica the past three years.

Edwin was born in Lafayette, Indiana on July 28, 1927, the son of the late George A. and Mary Buntin Anthrop and attended school in Klondike. He married Rose Marie Davis Huggler at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lafayette November 12, 1949. She preceded him in death April 15, 2007.

Surviving are two daughters, Carolyn Anthrop and Jayne (Greg) Clinton; two sons, Edwin E. "Butch" (Mona) Anthrop, Jr. and George F. Anthrop (Susan Spieldenner); a brother, Harold (Jane) Anthrop; four sisters, Sister Jane Anthrop, Barb Wagner, Pat (Wayne) Kingma and Lois Klinkhammer; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by seven brothers, George, Jr., Norman, Bill, Bob, Marvin, Joe and Jack Anthrop and one sister, Dorothy.

Edwin was a farmer and heavy equipment operator. He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, the United States Trotting Horse Association, the Indiana and Illinois Trotting Horse Associations, the Indiana Harness Horse Association and raced USAC midgets and stock cars from 1950 until 1962, racing mostly at the Lafayette Speedway.
