Died of Sunstroke
Trustee John H. Behrens, Sr., died very suddenly at 3 o’clock Monday afternoon from heat prostration.

Mr. Behrens was on his way from his home to his office at about 1:30 pm and when near John Frick’s blacksmith shop was seen to fall. He was carried into the shop and his son Charles summoned by telephone. Upon his arrival there he secured a buggy and took his father home. Dr. Gengelbach was summoned but his efforts to restore the patient were unavailing.

John H. Behrens, Sr., was born in this city Nov. 10, 1844, and was a son of Herman and Philopena Behrens. He was married to Louisa Dearing Sept. 20, 1868, with whom he lived happily until they were separated by her death. Six children survive them, as follows: Charles, Elizabeth, Anna, Frank W. and Grover Behrens of this city and Mrs. Wm. H. Bretz of Rockport. Besides these children Mr. Behren’s aged mother, two brothers and one sister – Henry of Strawn, Ind., Louis of Louisville, Ky., and Mrs. Herman Heitman survive him.

Funeral services were held at the late residence of the deceased Wednesday afternoon at two o’clock, Rev. G. A. Kienle officiating. – Huntingburg News.

Death Certificate: Listed as a Widower, son of Harman Behrens and Philippina Lieber, he died of sun stroke and heart failure age 55 years 9 months 10 days; burial was on August 22nd at Fairmount. Charles Behrens was informant.

John H. Behrens, Sr. was counted on 7 June 1900 in Patoka Twp, Dubois County, a Farmer, a Widower, born November 1844; in his home is Charles H. Behrens, Elizabeth P. Behrens, Anna M. Behrens, Frank W. Behrens, Grover J. Behrens, John H. Singer, and Philophine Behrens, his mother.
