Rev. Matthew Garland, Sr., 86, of Ringgold, died September 9, 2016 at the Danville Medical Center. Born June 9, 1930 in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Mark and Sally Ann Harper Garland. He was married to Erma Harris Garland, who survives.
Survivors also include two daughters, Ella G. Jones and Sheila A. Garland; three sons, Matthew Garland, Jr. (Hazel), Jerry W. Garland, Bishop Dennis R. Garland, Sr. and Elder Andrew L. Garland (Georgia); sisters, Louise G. Davis and Mary Sue G. Sherman; a brother, Deacon Wilbert Garland. He was also predeceased by a son, Larry D. Garland; sisters, Gracie G. Gunn, Ola Mae G. Gwyn and Myrtle G. Frazier; brothers, Edward Garland, Samuel Garland, Sr. and Henry Garland.
Birial will be at Floral Hills.
