John was a farmer. He married Dora Greenwood on 23 June 1873 in Austin, Travis Co., TX. From this marriage they had three children - Cora, Lon and Earl Charles. Dora died same year birth of Earl Charles. Death and burial data unknown. Grieving, John died 1 May 1882. The maternal grandparents ( Caroline and William Greenwood) became legal guardians to the 3 children. William died in 1883 and Caroline died in 1888. Thereafter, the children were cared for by their uncle, Charles Edgar Clinger, who owned land in Del Valle area in Travis Co., TX.
To date there is no factual data showing location of burial site for John. However, oral and written statements made by John's genealogy granddaughter ( Ruth), Probate data of Estate of John showing charge of $41.65 for funeral expense, and Greenwood family living in Red Rock area, owning land in Bastrop and Hays Counties and handling affairs of John were sufficient for marker to be placed on 6 Sept. 2016 in Old Red Rock Cemetery financed by Charles E. Clinger.
