With her first husband, Howard Griffith, she helped organize the American Cancer Society's "Road to Recovery," an organization dedicated to helping cancer patients with transportation and support during their treatment and recovery. She was active in the American Cancer Society for over 40 years.
Because of her love of flowers, she enjoyed being a member of the DeFuniak Springs Garden Club. As a former member of the DeFuniak Springs Pilot Club and the De-Funiak Springs Women's Club, she participated in many civic functions that helped other citizens in and around Walton County.
She worked for Cawthon State Bank and Barnett Bank. She retired from banking in 1988. Shortly thereafter, she married John Sims. They spent the next nine years as travel agents, organizing tours. They traveled extensively, and made it possible for many people in this area and surrounding areas to tour much of the United States and some foreign countries.
With her husband, John Sims, she worked tirelessly to bring "Christmas Reflections" to DeFuniak Springs. This event has brought much enjoyment to area residents and visitors to the area. They worked many hours each year to help make the event a success. After giving up their travel agency, they spent the next few years, before her failing health prevailed, enjoying family, especially the grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, daughter, mother, and grandmother. Her family was the joy of her life, and getting together with them made her the happiest.
Mrs. Sims is predeceased by her father, W.S. (Shell) Hudson; her first husband, Howard H. Griffith; and her brothers Allen Hudson, Paul Hudson and Ronnie Hudson.
