A member of the Trojan Marching Band, he played alongside classmate President Bill Clinton and graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1964.
After graduation, Roger enlisted in the United States Air Force. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War and in South Korea during the crisis of the U.S.S. Pueblo.
He married Paula Grinnis, his high school sweetheart, in 1965. Together they had three children.
An avid outdoorsman and motorcycle enthusiast, Roger won many tournaments and trophies for hunting and fishing. We are pretty sure he’s still talking about the one that got away.
His passion for the outdoors led him to retire after more than twenty years as an electrician for St. Joseph’s Hospital to a life on the Caddo River- which was his lifelong dream. Most often you could find him sitting in his favorite chair along the river or searching for arrowheads and artifacts. In fact, outdoor activities were ever only interrupted for Razorback game time.
Missing him will be his children- better known as his best fishing “buddies”- Roger (Sonia) Graham, Jr., Sheri (Freddy) Thornton, and Anita (Cecil) Martin; his ten adored grandchildren Sarah and Olivia Graham, Will and Garner Thornton, Charlie, Payton, London, McKree, Reece and India Martin; and his sister Anita (Tom) Hanby with whom he loved to spend time. Always ready for a laugh, he will be remembered as the fun uncle to Tommy, Sheryl and Brandi. His dear friends Larry Church, Ricky Caldwell and Doyle Morris; special friends Annette Rowland and Paula Starr (the mother of his children); and his sweet poodle Polly will remember him fondly. He had a host of nieces, nephews, and friends –too many to name-whom he loved dearly.
A Celebration of Roger’s Life will be held at Gross Funeral Home on September 25, 2016 at 2:30pm.
