A Mass of Christian Burial for Vanessa "Van" Brown will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 13, 2016, in the St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA. Fr. James Brady will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park.
She passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2016, at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, at the age of 56.
Vanessa was a native of Opelousas. Her home of fifty years was Alexandria, LA, with Assisted Evergreen Life Services. She enjoyed working at John Eskew Training Center in Alexandria for many years. Always eager to participate in functions, she was debutante in the Evergreen Pageant and was voted "Most Athletic". Her favorite pastime was being with family and reading magazines. Her bubbly personality was an extraordinary joy. She was the light of our life.
Survivors include her stepmother, Patsy David Brown of Opelousas; sisters, Cindy Brown Taitano and husband, Jesse of Houston, TX; Angela Brown of Breaux Bridge; and Heidy Brown Vincent and husband, Brooke of Youngsville; brother, Jay Brown of Illinois; nieces, Tara and husband, Jon; and Victoria; nephews, Cory and Shawn; great niece, Tylie and great nephew, Jack. She will be immensely missed by her best friend and roommate, Carolyn Moore.
She was preceded in death by her father, Juncie Charles "J.C." Brown; her mother, Nora Jeanne "Jane" Ortego Brown; and her grandparents, Charlie and Elizabeth Brown; Ed and Mable Ortego; and Jeffery and Volta David.
Pallbearers will be Jesse, Cory, and Shawn Taitano; Wayne Ardoin, Gerald Ardoin, and Wyatt Quinn. Honorary pallbearer will be Jon Rourke.
Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Tuesday, September 13, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. A Rosary service will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
