Robert L. Harrell, 84, of Creston, formerly of the Thayer area, passed away Wed. March 17, 2010 at the Creston Nursing and Rehab Center in Creston.

Robert LeRoy Harrell, son of Cliff Harrell and Gertrude (DeBok) Harrell, was born Jan. 13, 1926 in Madison County, Iowa. He was educated in Madison County area schools. On March 6, 1949, Bob married Ruth Louise Reed in West Des Moines, Iowa. They lived in rural Madison County until 1959, when they moved to the farm he and Ruth purchased, located north of Thayer. Bob was a life-long farmer, and also worked at Purolator in Creston for 13 years. He retired from farming in 1988. They moved to Creston in 2007. Bob loved to hunt and fish as well as camp with Ruth and friends.

Bob loved his grandchildren and enjoyed activities with them and teaching them about the farm, driving, and good behavior among others. Bob served on the Jones Township Board of Trustees for several years.

Survivors include his wife Ruth Harrell of Creston; two daughters, Karen (husband Denny) Struble and Jane (husband Steve) McCann, both of Creston; and a son, Rick Harrell of Afton; four sisters, Alma Duff of Redding, Calif., Zelma Libby of Winterset, Margaret Guthrie of Norwalk, and Jackie (husband Delbert) Trevillyan of Winterset; six grandchildren, Jennifer (husband Brian) Bruce, Katie (husband Jon) Boeding, Laci Struble, Kyle (wife Maggie) McCann, Kristen (husband Justin) Theisen and Kari McCann; five great-grandchildren, Julia and Karaline Bruce, Malakai Hale, Carter Boeding and Sadie McCann.

Bob was preceded in death by his two brothers, Delbert & Junior Harrell, and three brothers-in-law, and two sisters-in-law.
