Sarah Elizabeth "Bettie" Bonner, daughter of Dr. Samuel Bonner and Sarah C. Hearst, was born in Wilcox Co., AL on 27 March 1832. One early letter refers to her as Betsy. Her father died shortly before her birth and her mother just a few months after Bettie's sixth birthday. She grew up in the household of relatives and of her brother Joseph Hearst Bonner. She was a lifelong member of the ARP Church first in Oak Hill, AL and later in Stewards Mill, Freestone Co., TX. On 25 April 1850, Bettie married her first cousin, John Laird Bonner; their fathers were brothers. After making their home in Wilcox Co. AL for a few years and burying three children in Hamburg Cemetery there, they moved to Bonnerville, Freestone Co., TX after 1857. Sarah Elizabeth Bonner died there on 21 January 1871. Sarah Elizabeth Bonner and John Laird Bonner were parents of Joseph Samuel "Sam;" Eliza Jane Williams; John Irvine; Jim Billie' Andrew; Oliver Young; John Irvine "Jack;" Theophilus Hunter "Offie."
