Mother of two.
Cemetery records show her as "Margaret Ganong".
Documentation for Mary Margaret Ganong's parents:
Margaret Klees and O. T. Ganong marriage record, posted on this page.
1850 and 1860 federal census, posted on the page of her father William Klees (1804-1850):
Margaret Klees age 12 in 1850
Mary Kleese age 21 in 1860 (a very fancy "2").
The grave of Margaret's paternal grandmother Mrs. George (Elizabeth Roth) Klees (1769-1850) (#70506925):
Margaret Ganong's obituary, posted on this page, says she was born in Lycoming County, PA. Her father has three brothers buried in this same cemetery as her grandmother in Lycoming County. William Klees (1804-1850) is in the Huntersville area in the 1830 census.
I assume, but do not know for certain, that Margaret Ganong followed the German naming custom of her father's family. She would have been named Maria Margaretha Klees at her infant baptism. "Maria" was her "Taufname" ("baptized name"); "Margaretha" was her "Rufname" ("called name"). Her English-speaking neighbors would have known her as "Mary"; her German-speaking neighbors and relatives would have known her as "Margaretha". This would explain the seeming discrepancy in the 1850 and 1860 federal censuses, mentioned above.
