BROWNWOOD Texas 1944—Brownwood News, 13 Mar 1944—B.S.Boysen, 85, pioneer Brownwood business man and extensive property owner, died suddenly at his home at 403 East Lee street at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Mrs. Boysen preceded him in death in 1937.

Mr. Boysen, a native of Sterdebull Denmark, has been a citizen of Brownwood since 1884. He operated a meat market here for more than forty years and also was in the ice manufacturing business for many years and still owned the Crystal Ice Co. here.

He also was one of the early-day operators of an electric plant in Brownwood, selling his plant about 1913 to the Texas Power and Light Company.

Mr. Boysen had extensive business property holdings in Brownwood and also owned land and other property in other Texas counties.

Born February 10, 1859, he apprenticed as a butcher Bordelum and was drafted into the 11th Company, 86th Fusilier Regiment, Prussian Army on Nov 7, 1879. Upon completing his 3-years service, he emigrated to the U.S. aboard the Steamer Cimbria landing at New York Castle Gardens on 22 December 1882. He immediately sailed and arrived in Galveston on New Years day and lived in San Antonio and Rogers Ranch for nearly two years before coming to Brownwood. He was a member of the Mason Lodge No. 279 and the I.O.O.F.

Funeral services were held at the residence at 4 p.m. Monday with Rev. Nathan J. Salyer and Rev. Bristow Gray officiating. Burial was made in Greenleaf cemetery with Austin-Morris Funeral Home in charge of arrangments.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Catherine Lawrence of Ysleta and Mrs. Stevie Vaughn of Brownwood; and six sons, Jesse Boysen of Levelland, Maurice Boysen of Houston, Karl Boysen of Edinburg, S.F. Boysen of Ft. Worth, Marcus Boysen of Brownwood and Major A. E. Boysen, who is stationed in England. Mrs. Boysen preceded her husband in death in 1937.

Pallbearers were W. H. Gifford, John T. Yantis, U.R. Groom, Dean Rippetoe, Brook S. Ramey and E. P. Woodruff.
