Millie’s siblings include her sister, Flossie Lawrence-deceased; brothers, Carl-deceased (Clara) Dawson, Albert (Mamie-both deceased) Dawson, Ray (Pauline) Dawson, Richard (Dorothy) Dawson and Dean (Bonnie) Dawson. Being the 2nd oldest of 7 children, Millie was naturally a wonderful caregiver.
After graduating from a one-room schoolhouse in Hanover, she attended beauty school in Jackson and worked as a beautician in Battle Creek.
She met her husband, John Hess, at a U.S.O. dance hall and eventually they moved back to her family’s bicentennial farm to raise their family.
Left to honor and remember their love is a 4-generation family including their 3 children, Patty (Harvey) Griffiths, Pam (David) Joers and Doug (Lisa) Hess; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Mildred was a kind and gentle soul who was devoted to nurturing her family. She enjoyed being independent, was always ready for a game of Scrabble or cards, was a regular member of the Birthday Club and enjoyed every family celebration. Her quiet demeanor, love for her family, and the whereabouts of her purse were a beautiful part of who she was.
Millie was at the Lauer Family Funeral Home
where a service was held on Sunday September 11, 2016. Interment followed in Pulaski Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Mildred’s name to Southern Care Hospice Jackson, Michigan
