Elmer was born on February 22, 1927 in Paducah to Allie Lawton “A.L.” and Mary Ann (Matney) Jones. He graduated from Paducah High School. He joined the Army on June 14, 1945, serving in WWII. He was Honorably Discharged on January 30, 1947. He married Ruth Marie Stinson on November 9, 1947 in Paducah. From this union they had two children; Jim and Debbie.
Elmer was an insurance agent, stock broker, and he also farmed and ranched. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 68 years; Ruth Jones, children; Jim Jones and wife Lisa Minett of Frisco, and Debbie McClure and husband Larry of Lubbock, brother; Alton Jones and wife Phyllis of Paducah, three grandchildren, Amber King and husband Ty of McKinney, Lindsey Day and husband Josh of Melissa and Lara Lung and husband John of Lubbock; and five great grandchildren, Zada and Jaxon Day of Melissa, Zach Barger, Tyler and Kyndal Lung of Lubbock.
He is preceded in death by his parents; A.L. and Mary Ann Jones, sister; Margie Ruth Shipley, brother; Wilmer H. Jones, and a grandson; Jason Cheyne.
