Samuel B. Martin was born in Demopolis Alabama, then his father moved the family to San Francisco in 1860. He came to BC in 1877 where he helped his cousin Marsh English with running the fish canneries in Steveston & Brownsville. In July of 1891 he married Ida Teresa Macaualy and in 1898, he became a naturalized citizen. They had 5 children and spent about 10 years in Esquimalt on Vancouver Island where the youngest 2 were born.

Ida died on July 3, 1914 at the beginning of WWI and although I cannot find a record, I believe she is buried in St. Peters Cemetery as well. Apparently they didn't keep good records at that time. May 2022 update - She IS buried there with her husband in blk 4 Lot 34 , but the records have her as Mrs. Macaulay (her maiden name)
