Augusta, GA – Mrs. Ruth P. Nix, 92, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday,
September 7, 2016.
Mrs. Nix was happily married to W. Goodwin Nix for 55 wonderful years until his
homecoming in 2002. She was born in the mountains of Rabun County, Georgia. Mrs. Nix
was known for her keen wit and beloved sense of humor.
A loving, dedicated wife and mother, Ruth was a graduate of the University of
Georgia, a Registered Dietician and an avid Georgia Bulldog Fan.
The beloved mother of son, Steve Nix (Kim) and daughter, Jane Nix, Ruth proudly
leaves as her heritage four grandchildren: Jenna Payne, Stephanie Nix Gargus (Jay),
Win Nix and Katherine Payne Carpenter (Jeffrey), as well as great grandson, Russ
Gargus.
Ruth was the seventh of eight children born to James Oscar and Mary Powell of
Mountain City, GA. Her passion for life and for her family will not be soon
forgotten and she will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
A funeral service will be Friday, September 9, 2016 at 3:00 P.M. in the Chapel at
Thomas Poteet & Son with Dr. Greg Porterfield officiating. Interment will follow in
Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Rabun Gap, GA on Saturday at 1:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s
Association, 106 SRP Drive Suite A, Evans, GA 30809 or to Wesley United Methodist
Church 825 N. Belair Road, Evans, GA 30809.
