On December 5, 2006 Barbara Jean Walker Ross Thomason went home to glory. She was born in Roanoke, Va. to the late Dorothy Walker. Barbara retired from the City of Roanoke Department of Social Services. She is also preceded in death by her brothers, Herman "Bug" Walker, Ernest "Sug" Walker and Thomas "Tootie" Walker; her son, Chester "Soupie" Ross III and daughter, Cloteal "Weggie" Jones. Babara leaves behind her husband, William Hubert Thomason; sister, Lucy (Charles) George of Roanoke; two sons, Cecil Ross and Calvin Ross, both of Roanoke; six daughters, Christine Reed, Roanoke, Charlene (Lawrence) Brown of Richmond, Cecilia (Tyrone) Smith, Colorado Springs, Colo., Colette Horsey, South Carolina, Carolyn Coles, Richmond, Va. and Constance Ross of Roanoke; an array of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, December 9, 2006 at Hill Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny R. Stone officiating. The interment will be in Williams Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service. Friends may call on Friday afternoon for viewing at Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home.
