US Congressman. He attended schools in Suffolk County and became a farmer. He was County Clerk from 1820 to 1821. Later in the 1820s he studied law and was admitted to the bar. Floyd was Suffolk County District Attorney in 1830, and a member of the New York Assembly in 1836 and 1838. From 1837 to 1840 he was President of the Huntington Town Board. In 1840 he was elected as a Democrat to a single term in the US House of Representatives, serving from 1841 to 1843. In 1843 he was elected Suffolk County Judge and Huntington Town Supervisor, holding both offices until his 1865 retirement.
