Don was my husband of 38 years. He and I married on June 14, 1975. We had one daughter, Hana. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Lucille Sanders, a sister, Jonell Coker, and one nephew, Eddie Coker.
For all of his adult life, Don struggled with heart disease and diabetes. He had his first heart bypass surgery in 2005, which was very successful. However, in July of 2013, he required a second heart bypass surgery which had many complications. He required a pacemaker after this surgery but never fully regained his health. On August 10, 2013, he had to be hospitalized with 104 fever and severe fluid retention in his legs. He was sent home on August 16th(which I questioned as too soon). 24 hours later he passed away at home. I cannot reconcile the fact of his deteriorating condition and being sent home so soon. I guess I will know why one day.
