CARTER, FREDDIE JAMES, "COFFEE", "HONEY", - was the youngest of 13 children born to the late Steven and Cisily Foster Carter. He was born October 25, 1928 in Townsend, GA where he attended the local schools and churches. At an early age, Freddie enlisted in the US Navy. After being discharged from the Navy, he came North with his parents where they settled in Pleasantville. Freddie met and married the late Mary Woodall Carter with whom he started a family. This marriage was later dissolved. "Coffee" a name he gave himself and was called by friends, was a happy go lucky and prankful person. He was an excellent horseback rider and trainer as a young man. Friends and loved ones could always expect a funny saying or a playful joke because it came natural to be the center of gatherings for him. Coffee loved to build and ride motorcycles. Out of the passion he founded the State Burners Motorcycle Club of South Jersey. After a number of years, Freddie decided to relocate to Philadelphia, where once again, his love for freestyle riding and a desire to stunt-ride led him to start the State Burners Motorcycle Club of Philadelphia. While in Philadelphia he was a long-distance trucker. He and his son Harry became the owners and operators of a number of Big Rigs. As he mellowed with age, Freddie became a member of Concord Baptist Church of Philadelphia, where he dedicated his life to the Lord. He was a church usher who served God wholeheartedly. Being no longer in a relationship, he once again renewed a friendship of his younger years with Barbara Murphy who later became his loving and caring wife. He relocated to Egg Harbor Twp (Cardiff), NJ. He and his wife Rev. Barbara Carter became members of Full Gospel Deliverance and later Trinity Tabernacle Church. Again, Freddie served the Lord faithfully as a pastor's aide and usher. As his health began to fail, he could not get to church as he desired, so various saints came to pray and sing with him. He was predeceased by sons: Fred, Jr. and Marco. "Honey" as he was affectionately called by his wife and family members. Left to celebrate his home-going are: his wife, Rev. Barbara Carter; sons, Harry of Willingboro; Christopher of Philadelphia; Sidney of Sicklerville; Morris and Myron of Atlantic City; daughters, Judy of Pleasantville, Yolanda of Tampa, FL; Mary and Cisily of Atlantic City; grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; sisters Annie Scott of Brunswick, GA and Leola Pressley of Slidell, LA; sister-in-law, Rev. Shirley Ellis of Egg Harbor Township; special niece and nephew, Sharon Hawkins and Robert Murphy; and a host of other family and friends. Funeral services will be held 11AM, Saturday, December 9, 2006, at Proclaiming His Word Fellowship, 101 North First Street and Pleasant Avenue, Pleasantville, where friends may call from 10AM. Interment to follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Pleasantville. Arrangements entrusted to Greenidge Funeral Home, Inc., Atlantic City, (609) 345-6305.
