Dan was born August 10, 1956 to Kenneth and Dixie Parker. He grew up in Pierre and graduated from T.F. Riggs High School. Dan’s first job was at Brady’s Menswear Store, and then went on to work for Buildings and Grounds for the State of South Dakota. For the last 26 years he worked for Bankwest. He also was a volunteer for many years for the Pierre Fire Department.
Dan was married to Mary Parker in 1980, they settled in Pierre to raise their family. One of Dan’s great passions was camping. His love of camping brought his family and many friends together, usually at Farm Island – camp site 26.
He loved spending time with his family and friends, including his seven grandchildren. He loved spoiling his grandchild with new toys that were just as much for him as they were for them. Dan really enjoyed hunting with family and friends, riding his motorcycle and cutting enough wood for the whole campground.Dan will always be remembered for famous camping quotes including: "Let's go campin!" and "Come on campin'season!" And Dan's favorite Christmas song: "Oh Christmas Tree"

Dan is survived by his father Kenneth Parker, Pierre; two brothers: Doug (Jan) Parker and Steve Parker all of Pierre; two sons: Steve (Chasidy) McCarty and Bob (Lynette) McCarty all of Pierre; daughter Kellie (Justin) Tollefson of Aberdeen and seven grandchildren: Arielle McRoberts, Kaitlyn McRoberts, Jessika McCarty, Matthew McCarty and Noah McCarty all of Pierre, and Bennett and McKinley Tollefson of Aberdeen; brother-in-law David (Cori) Anderson of Kennewick WA; three nephews: Jeff Thurston of Cascade, ID, Zach Thurston of Boise, ID and Tony (Meghan) Parker of Sioux Falls and one niece Sarah (TJ) Gallagher of Pierre.
He was preceded in death by his mother Dixie Parker and his wife Mary Parker
