Mrs. Lena V. Whatley, 34-year-old resident of Farmers Valley, and her infant son, John Turner Whatley, Jr., died Sunday morning in a Vernon hospital.
Mrs. Hartley had been a resident of Farmers Valley for the last 13 years. Born in Foster, Garfield County, Oklahoma, Oct. 3, 1906, she was married in 1925 at Altus, Okla. to John T. Whatley.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Monday at the Methodist Church of Farmers Valley, of which she was a member. Rev. A.D. Moore, pastor of the Church, will officiate, and burial will be in the Tolbert Cemetery under the direction of the Henderson Funeral Home.
Pall bearers will be J.W. Sorrels, Orvil Taylor, H.G. Frost, G.F. Vaughn, E.H. Rich, and J.J. Frost, all of Farmers Valley.
Those surviving Mrs. Whatley, in addition to the husband, include seven children: sons, Bonnie Thomas, Merle Cicero and Royal Vance Whatley and daughters, Dorrisey Lea, Betty Lorene, Tressie Maurine, and Shirley Ann Whatley, all of the home; her father, Samuel Irvin Griffin of Walters OK; four sisters, Mrs. Sam Jones of Munday, Mrs. Bob Gillespie of Elmore City OK, Mrs. J.B. Shelton of Foster OK, Mrs. Shortly Johnson of Lawton, OK, two half-sisters, Mrs. Ollie Barnett and Miss Nettie Faye Griffin, both of Walters OK; one brother, Bill Griffin of Vernon; five half-brothers, James, Elvis, Edgar and Lloyd Griffin of Walters, and Edward Griffin of Fort Worth.
