MADISON, NC ~ Rebecca Carringer Smothers died Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at Hospice Home of Rockingham County.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m., Saturday, September 10, 2016, at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel, with Will Hopper officiating. A private inurnment will follow at a later time in Buffalo Cemetery.

Ms. Smothers was born June 10, 1941 in Stokes County to the late Dillard Carringer and Doris Helen Hennis Carringer.

She retired from Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC, and moved to Eden.

Rebecca had resided at Brookdale Assisted Living for the past seven years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Gloria Smothers.

Survivors include sons: Rex Smothers of Madison and Chad Smothers (Lee) of Raleigh; step grandchildren: Austin and Braxton Berrios; sister, Carolyn Collins of Madison; brother, J.R. Carringer (Sheila) of Elon; nieces: Paige Hill of Kansas and Julie Mooney of Burlington; and extended special family: Doug and Janet Roberts and Johanna, Jenna and Corey Paris, Paxton and Emalyn.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at Colonial Funeral Home and all other times at the home Carolyn Collins, 225 North Dalton Street, Madison.

Special thanks to caregivers and the staffs of Brookdale of Eden and Hospice Home of Rockingham County.
