Patrick J. Stevenson, age 38, of Quincy, died Wednesday, September 7, 2016, at 5:00 am in his home.

Patrick was born March 24, 1978 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Kent and Sheila Nelson Stevenson.

Patrick was a 1999 graduate of Quincy High School. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and received his Eagle Scout award. In scouts, he was a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow Honor Society. Patrick had also been a poster child for the March of the Dimes.

When Patrick was nine years old, he collected aluminum cans to raise enough money to buy his first electric wheelchair. His campaign gained national attention and was even featured on NBC. He was an avid Cubs, Bears, and Blackhawks fan. He also enjoyed volunteering at Blessing Hospital. Patrick was most proud of being an uncle.

Patrick is survived by his parents; two brothers, Chad (Jeff Deters) Stevenson of Fowler, IL; and Collin (Angie) Stevenson of Quincy; a sister, Kristen (Michael) Gibson of DeWitt, IA; five nieces and nephews: Kylla, Kyler, and Alexa Stevenson; and Graham and Eden Gibson; maternal grandmother, Duanne Nelson of Ottawa, IL; four aunts and uncles: Karen (Dan) Engebrecht of Jacksonville, IL; Donette (Jesus) Sanchez of San Diego, CA; Gary (Kathy) Nelson of Ottawa, IL; and Karen (David) Shaffer of Ursa, IL; eight cousins: Drew (Kayla) Engebrecht, Kara (Willie) Cashmore, Christopher Sanchez, Melissa, Jessica, and Donald Nelson, Carrie (Jeromy) Shepherd, and Jeff (Michelle) Shaffer; and a special friend, Heather Nuttleman of Quincy.

Patrick was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Donald W. Nelson, and his paternal grandparents, Earl and Eloise Stevenson.

Services: 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 12, 2016 at Vermont Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Patty Johansen officiating.

Burial: Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois

Visitation: 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home
