Anita Marie King was born on April 24, 1948, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the daughter of Frank and Margaret (Price) Lindquist. Anita passed away on September 1, 2016, at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House in Pella, Iowa.

As a youth much of her activity revolved around the community of faith at First Baptist Church in Anoka, Minnesota, and the close knit local Champlin neighborhood where she grew up. She was a 1966 graduate of Anoka High School.

Anita spent much of her adult life as an educator working with middle school youth and special needs children. She took her own education seriously and earned a B.A. from the University of Minnesota and a Master’s Degree in Education from Arizona State University. Anita worked as a social studies teacher in Anoka-Hennepin School District in suburban Minneapolis and as a teacher assistant in Special Education at the Pella Middle School until her retirement in December of 2010. Upon retirement Anita and her husband spent the majority of the winters in Arizona, where they had lived with their children from 1983 until 1995.

Anita and Dennis King met as sophomores at Augsburg College. After a long courtship and a two year stint for Dennis in the U.S. Peace Corps, on April 6, 1974, they were united in marriage at First Baptist Church in Anoka, Minnesota. As a wife and mother, family was a priority for Anita. Her proudest achievements were raising two talented and intelligent daughters: Jane and Gretchen, both who have earned Master’s Degrees in their chosen fields and who now are productive and caring members of their communities in Denver, Colorado, and Washington, D.C.

Anita was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church in Pella, Iowa, and involved in the community in many ways including teaching adult strengthening family courses. She enjoyed hiking, walking and sailing in the family sailboat on Lake Red Rock. Each year for the last 15 years she has spent a week hiking in various parts of the West and Midwest with her 3 close friends.

Anita is survived by her husband, Dennis; her daughters: Jane (Dan) Bock, and Gretchen King; her grandchildren: Owen Bock and Sophie Bock; her father Frank Lindquist of Champlin, Minnesota; and her siblings: Patricia Lindquist of Bloomington, Minnesota, and William (Julie) Lindquist of Champlin, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Lindquist.
