During his later years he received his graduation degree from the University of South Carolina, where he walked and received his diploma at age 89.

Immediately after the University he went to work with the Internal Revenue Service as an Internal Revenue Agent auditing Income Tax Returns. He retired August 30, 1980 as a Grade 13 Field Agent after 32 years.
