Mrs. Sarah Lee Hegler McGee, age 88, of Mount Airy, died Wednesday September 7, 2016, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. Mrs. McGee was born in South Carolina on September 19, 1927, to O.C. and Bessie Dabney Hegler. She graduated from Furman University and was retired from Mount Airy City Schools. Surviving are daughters and a son-in-law, Anne and Mark Towe, and Laurie McGee; and a grandson, Zachary Towe. In addition to her parents, Mrs. McGee was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Lee McGee, Jr.; a son, Alan McGee; sisters, Edith Jones, Nancy Forrester, Julia Mauney and Helen Baird and brothers Charles Hegler and Oscar Hegler. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday September 10, 2016 at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jay Meadows and Dr. Roger Gilbert officiating and speakers, Dottie Bryson, Judge Jerry Cash Martin and Judge Aaron Moses Massey. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. The family will visit with friends in the Fireside Room at First Baptist Church on Saturday beginning at 12:30. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 714 N. Main St., Mount Airy, NC 27030.
