Karsten Martin Solheim was a twin brother to Olaf Nikolaus Solheim. The twins had an older brother named Adolf Peter Gjerhard Solheim and a younger brother named Peter Olaus Solheim.

Karsten was educated in music and became a Kantor (Cantor) and an organist with the Norwegian Lutheran Church in Bergen, Norway. Karsten was also an accomplished music composer whose music was regularly published.

On July 1, 1936, Karsten was awarded the Kongens fortjenstmedaljen i gul (The Gold Medal of Merit) by King Hakkon VII, for his work as an organist and kantor.

Karsten Married Petrine Johanne Marie Stephansen f. Hermansdatter on October 22, 1896.

They had four daughters listed from oldest to youngest:
