James Walker Varner of Eutawville, SC died early Sunday morning September 4, 2016 at Hospice of Charleston in Mt. Pleasant. He was born November 12, 1960 to the late Lloyd Elmore Varner and Betty McMillan Varner.

He worked in construction, a/c and cable installation, truck driving, land clearing and tree removal. He spent most of his life helping anyone in anyway that he could. He was raised in North Charleston but spent the last 15 years of his life near the lake in Eutawville. He loved fishing, hunting, making oyster knives and spending time in his golf cart with his beloved dog, Jessie. He loved to sing and compete in karaoke contests and was quite a crowd pleaser with a beautiful voice. He was also a great cook and loved hosting oyster roasts and frying fish for friends and neighbors. He had the best smile and never met a stranger.

He is survived by his mother Betty Varner of Summerville, sister Mary Hutto (Alton) of Mt. Pleasant, brother Buck Varner (Beverly) of Hanahan and sister Jill Crawford of Goose Creek. He also is survived by 3 nieces Lauren and Jenna Crawford of Brooklyn, NY, Leslie Hurley (Sam) of Edisto Island and 1 nephew Luke Varner of Hanahan. He leaves behind several aunts and one uncle, lots of cousins and countless friends who have sustained him through good times and bad.

Please join us for a Memorial Service on Saturday, September 10th at North Charleston United Methodist Church 1125 East Montague Avenue in North Charleston at 3:00 with visitation preceding the service at 2:00. Both the visitation and service will be held in the fellowship hall. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Charleston, MUSC Foundation or Hollings Cancer Center.
