WASHBURN – Guy Turner, 90, died, March 17, 2005, at a Caribou health care facility. He was born March 31, 1914, at Washburn, the son of Scott and Mary (Libby) Turner. He was educated in the Washburn school system and was a graduate of the Washburn High School. He married Catherine (Churchill) Turner on June 10, 1936. Mr. Turner was a prominent farmer in the Washburn area for more than 40 years. He was a past secretary and director of the Young Farmers Association of Central Aroostook and was a past member of the Washburn School Board. He was the local chairman of the Soil Conservation program in 1959. He was active in many other organizations, including the Farm Bureau, Extension Association, the Maine Breeders Association and the American Hereford Association. He was awarded the Honorary State Farmer Degree in 1959, in recognition of 25 years of outstanding success as a farmer. Guy was a member of the Lidstone United Methodist Church of Washburn, where he loved and enjoyed the fellowship. He enjoyed visits from his great-grandchildren and always had cookies for them. He and Catherine enjoyed square dancing with family and friends. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, LeRoy and Margaret Turner and Larry and Brenda Turner all of Washburn; one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Wendell Doody of Washburn; one brother, Bert Turner of Washburn; a sister-in-law, Drusilla Turner of Washburn; 13 grandchildren, Andrew, Scott, Todd, Trent and Brent Turner, Kathie Davis, Mitchell, Wendell Jr. and Adam Doody, Amanda Husk, Wendy Rose, Sheila Clark and Aaron Turner; 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Turner was predeceased by his wife, Catherine Dec. 10, 2004; a brother, Glen Turner; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Turner. Friends may call at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou, 11:30 a.m. Monday, March 21, 2005, until time of services, which will be held at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dorothy Matson, officiating. Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Washburn. Friends who wish to contribute in memory of Mr. Turner may do so through the Lidstone Methodist Memorial Fund.
