Patricia Ann (Pat) Chandler, a longtime philanthropist, arts patron and community volunteer died Monday September 5, 2016 after a brief illness. She was 80 years old.

Pat was a decades-long Amarillo resident and an art and music lover who passionately believed in and supported the city’s causes and organizations, including the Amarillo Art Center, the Amarillo Botanical Gardens and the Amarillo Symphony. She also was an active member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, where she served on the Parish Council and was a member of the Altar Guild, which included serving as the chairwoman of the funeral meal committee until her death.

A Prayer Service will be at 6 PM on Wednesday, September 7th at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 8th at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Celebrant will be Rev. John Valdez and Bishop Patrick Zurek as concelebrant. Burial at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Arrangements by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.

Pat was born in Denver, Colorado on April 24, 1936 to Thomas and Mary Golden. She was the fourth of five children. She graduated from Cathedral High School in 1954. After moving to Albuquerque, she worked for EG&G in Human Resources. She attended the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.

Pat married John Chandler on November 27, 1963. They had one daughter, Michelle (Missy) Ann. In 1981, John purchased a Ford dealership in Amarillo (John Chandler Ford) and the family relocated to Amarillo. She also did volunteer work at both Bonham Junior High and Palo Duro High School.

Pat was preceded in death by her husband, John Chandler; her parents, Thomas and Mary Golden; her sister, Mary Harpole; her brothers, Tom Golden and Bill Golden; her nephew, Jerry Harpole and her niece, Therese Thomas.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Missy and Robert Lerma of Houston; sister Nancy Golden of Denver, Colorado; sisters-in-law Edie Golden of Denver and Maureen Golden of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Delores McKinney of Los Angeles, California; and numerous nieces and nephews including Eileen Harpole, and Megan and Joe Lockwood, all of Amarillo and Maureen (Mo) Harpole of Dallas. Special to her are her great-great nieces, Kiera and Payton Lockwood.

The family suggests that memorials be made to a charity of your choice.
